1) Pipes & Freeze Protection

  • Insulate exposed pipes (attic/garage/exterior walls).
  • Disconnect hoses and cover exterior spigots.
  • During hard freezes: drip faucets + open cabinets under sinks on exterior walls.
  • Know where your main shut-off valve is.

2) HVAC & Comfort

  • Change HVAC filter and test heat + thermostat.
  • Schedule seasonal service if it’s been a while.
  • Seal air leaks around doors/windows to cut heating costs.
  • Reverse ceiling fans to clockwise (low) to circulate warm air.

3) Roof, Gutters & Exterior

  • Inspect roof for missing/lifted shingles and damaged flashing.
  • Trim limbs away from roofline; remove dead branches.
  • Seal exterior gaps to keep moisture and pests out.

4) Fire & Safety

  • Test smoke detectors and replace batteries if needed.
  • Test carbon monoxide detector(s) for gas/propane appliances.
  • Have fireplace/chimney inspected if used regularly.
  • Space heater safety: 3 ft clearance, wall plug only, off when unattended.
